HAVE A GREAT SUMMER--SCHOOL STARTS AUGUST 11
· When it is hot outside and you are bored inside, here are a few
things you can do with your parents:
o Go snorkeling.
If you don't have a beach nearby, get some practice in at the pool or
even the bathtub!
o Make frozen lemonade pops.
Materials needed: Ice tray, lemonade mix (or other flavored drink mix),
water
Add water to the lemonade mix according to the directions.
Pour into an ice tray. The old aluminum pop-up trays are wonderful for
this.
Put into the freezer for a few hours.
Enjoy!
o Wash the car.
Be sure to check your local water restrictions first.
o Play in the sprinklers.
o Wash the dog.
On a really hot day, even the dog will enjoy it!

· This is an announcement from Student Council.
As the school year winds down we are going to stop doing recycling. Student
Council wants to thank all the Copper Ridge students and teachers who
have helped us recycle this school year. If you find
a teacher's plastic bin turned upside down that means that teacher will
not be getting any more recycling this school year so either bring your
bottles home to recycle them or toss them in the trash for us. Thank you
for your help in helping the environment and keeping our school clean.
Teachers you can keep your plastic bins and hopefully we will be able
to continue recycling next school year. Have a great summer from Student
Council.
· Summer is a good time to take time to do reading.
This week we will be counting down the top ten tips for finding
a good book.
Tip 10 Ask a Friend for a recommendation.
Tip 9 Go online. It’s easy to search for books on specific
title or read online reviews by kids your age at online bookstore sites
such as:
Amazon.com or barnes and noble.com.
Tip 8 Discover a classic. Ask a parent or other older
relative what their favorite books were at your age.
Tip 7 Find out what’s new. Look for reviews of children’s
books in the book section in the Sunday newspaper or in magazines.
Tip 6 Go for an award-winner. Look up past winners in
the annual Newbery awards competition and other children’s lit prize programs.
Most libraries keep lists of award-winners. You can also find award-winners
listed on the World Wide Web.
Tip 5 Pick a best seller. Visit a community bookstore
and ask what books other kids your age are reading.
Tip 4 Consult a friendly librarian. Ask your school librarian
to recommend a title.
Tip 3 Research a favorite topic. Use the library’s card
catalogue to look up a subject that interests you.
· Tip 2 Browse the stacks. See what you can find
at a library or bookstore just by pulling out books that look interesting.
Sometimes the best finds are things you find by luck!
And the top Tip Ask your teacher for a good recommendation!
· Spirit Buttons will now be on sale for $1 in
the office.
·Scottsdale Republic Features SUSD Teachers Do
you know an outstanding teacher in the Scottsdale Unified School District?
Would you like that teacher to be recognized in the newspaper? The Scottsdale
Republic is running a weekly feature highlighting a different SUSD teacher
each week. To nominate a teacher for this feature, simply fill out the
online Teacher Nomination Form (http://www.susd.org/district/communications/teachernominationform.cfm).
*Please note that a high resolution digital photo must be submitted to
be considered for publication.
·IMPORTANT SCHOOL UNIFORMS
Students must be in compliance with the school uniform policy every
school day. Students that are not in compliance will be sent to the office
and asked to call home and have the appropriate clothes brought to school.
We will ask students to remain in the office with their school work until
clothes can be brought in. Parents cannot excuse their child from wearing
the uniform. Additional violations could result in further disciplinary
action. Thank you for your help.
