NJHS (National Junior Honor Society) Students at the end of their 7th grade year are eligible for admission for their 8th grade year. Grades from 1-3rd quarter are verified, and all students who have maintained a 3.8 GPA for all three quarters of their 7th grade year are asked to fill out an application to apply for membership into NJHS. After completing the form, a committee of teachers reads and scores each application to determine eligibility into NJHS.
Once in NJHS, the focus is on community service, maintaining high scholarship standards, character, and citizenship. Students need to complete service hours to maintain active status as well as be present at meetings. Each quarter NJHS completes a service project that benefits our local community or the world. Past events have included a book drive for homeless children, volunteering at an inner city preschool, assisting at the Fall Festival and Boo at the Zoo, cleaning up the campus after school, and holding a world hunger awareness drive.
